Apartment Update: Part 1

So far, I could not be more thrilled with the apartment. We honestly chose the best building and location for us, and I have had such a fun time decorating and choosing stuff that really makes it ours. This is something I’ve always wanted to do, so it’s been really fun slowly getting things that make the space our own.

One thing I love most is our couch and rug combo – I think the parchment color of the couch pairs perfectly with the rug, and I honestly find the combination of the two to look stunning when the light comes in through the balcony window.

The rug I had been eyeing for probably six months leading up to the move. I knew I wanted something bright, blue and floral and this one ended up being the winner. I also was one of those people eagerly anticipating the LoLoi-Rifle Paper Co. rug collaboration leading up to the day of release a couple of years ago, so I also knew I was probably going to be eyeing on of theirs. My rug is the largest size in that pattern – 7′ 6″ by 9′ 6″, and I think it fits perfectly in the space. It’s funny, because originally I had wanted a darker look for the rug (I was thinking this one….which I may use one day if I ever have another space to fill…) Regardless, I think going lighter was definitely the better choice for the space! I ended up purchasing this rug pad to go underneath – it gives it the slightest bit of cushion, which is what I wanted as I was really looking for a flatter rug, no shag to it. I honestly love how it feels on my feet with the rug pad but, being not that experienced in the art of cutting rug pads to fit, I struggled. I was using cheap scissors and ending up cutting for 4 inches at a time and then having to pull all of the remaining fuzz out of the scissors. However, my Dad buys this brand all the time, and says you’re much better off using a box cutter if you ever need to cut to size!

White eyelet top is by Gap (Can’t wait to start wearing it to work!) and jeans are Gap as well – they are my new favorite pair! As always, the leather apple watch band is from Etsy.

The couch is my new favorite part of the apartment and Jake and I keep joking that it’s almost shocking to see it every time we walk it. It had been backordered and we basically spent the entirety of this summer without one. It was okay, because we really were traveling a lot, but it made me spend a lot less time hanging out in the living room! I love this sectional because I can lay down on the longer section with the ottoman and watch TV, but also literally every seat on this couch I so comfortable. We chose the parchment color and I honestly think it was the best choice we could have made. Being a couple that watches a lot of TV together, having this couch is such an important part of our space! We love it so much!!!

As for the other furniture in the space – a lot of it came from Jake’s other apartment! We love our grey chair and ottoman combo – it’s wicked comfy and gives us some extra seating for when we have guests! Same goes for our leather chair – Jake’s Mom found that years ago – I have no idea who makes it, but it’s a serious favorite of mine. As for the art above the grey chair, we have a colorful Rifle Paper Co print of NYC (can you tell I’m a fan?) paired with a  Sophie&Lili print of the Obama family  (she drew my logo and has done two other original pieces for me!)

Side note: We honestly love this TV stand because 1) it’s the perfect size for the apartment and I think the dark wood goes perfectly with the rest of our furniture and 2) it fits all of our stuff! We have gaming systems and our printer stored in there. (We didn’t want it taking up work space on our desk!)

As for the second chair: I love brown leather, because it’s such a classic – but pairing it was the metal arms makes it a bit more unique and versatile in our space. Jake’s Mom found this chair years ago, so I don’t know the exact brand! However, this one on Wayfair is nearly identical other than a slight change in the shade of brown in the leather! I also, of course, had to add my NYU pillow – sadly, the book store doesn’t carry it anymore (I literally love mine, so this motivates me to NEVER RUIN IT…) but this one on Etsy is so cute!  I’m such a proud alum, I love my NYU merch.

Oh, and if you noticed our little bistro table on the balcony, we purchased this one from Joss & Main and could not be happier with it! We eat dinner out there almost every night and have coffee out there every morning. We are thinking of adding a plant and possibly a lounge chair on the opposite end of the balcony…what do you think?

That’s it for now! More apartment updates to come, I’m sure! 🙂
