My Relationship to ‘Athleisure’

I’m not going to pretend I’m someone who wakes up early and goes for a run or gets home from work and lifts weights. I definitely don’t. I try to stay healthy and I make sure I get myself moving (Thank you, Apple Watch.), but I’m not going to be posting workout tips anytime soon. However, there’s something about athletic clothes that just feels good to wear. Anyone else feel that? They’re cozy, cute, and make me feel fit even when I’m not doing anything! Plus, they make for the perfect outfit for just going around town and running mundane errands. You’re comfortable, and could fool anyone that you’re stopping at the gym rightttt after this (I’m not…!)

As for cozy clothes, this outfit is one of my new faves. These sneakers are my new official go-to. They’re the New Balance Fresh Foam, and perfect for my walks with Jake. Plus, that pink is PERFECT. I found a matching sweatshirt at Old Navy that is so soft and fitting for fall days in New England. The Plum pink color I bought is on sale for only $20! My black leggings are the New Balance & J. Crew collab, which are sadly out of stock. However, these J. Crew high rise leggings are very similar! (I only buy leggings or jeans in high rise.)

To stay healthy, Jake and I go for a lot of long walks. It started a few years ago when I was in my Fitbit craze, absolutely *needing* to hit 15,000 steps a day. I was living in New York City, so it was definitely a lot easier. I’ve lost a bit of that need (probably lost it a little toooo much) and now Jake and I look forward to our walks simply just for talking. We love the movement and getting a bit of our energy out, but it’s also a great time for us to talk alone and get out thoughts out. We’ve worked out a lot of life decisions on these walks and, when I’m lucky enough to go on one, it’s always the best part of my day. It’s especially awesome when I get a latte on those early morning ones. 😉

Side note: I think my Apple Watch actually helps me stay healthier because it keeps me setting workout goals and I have a *move* goal instead of a step goal. So, I’m watching how many calories I’m burning and getting my heart rate going. I think both the Fitbit and Apple Watch are great options, I’ve gotten so much out of using both, but right now I simply l o v e my Apple Watch. I was a Fitbit girl for years!

However, it’s not just walks where I like to wear the comfiest of the comfiest. To be honest, I’m the type of girl who gets home from work and immediately puts on leggings and a sweatshirt. Orrrrr literally my favorite J.Crew pajamas paired with these dreamy L.L. Bean slippers – I’ve been wearing this pair for years! As much as I love cute clothes, I like to be as comfortable as possible when I’m ‘done for the day.’ Leaving student teaching and being in my pj’s by dinner is my favorite, and lamest, way to put my brain on pause.

Are you a fan of the athleisure trend? Or do you actually use your sneakers to work out? 😉
