Grad School Won’t Let Me Sleep

Okay – this is actually a little weird coming from me. Before I start, you need to understand: I’m a sleep person. I go to bed early and get up early. Senior year of college, my roommate used to think it was so weird that, at the moment my alarm went off, I was able to just hit the button and hop in the shower. Because, hey, I had a good nights sleep and I was typically happy to see the morning! On weekends, I’m usually up by 8:00, and I don’t spend much time tossing and turning: I just fall asleep. Like, in a couple minutes.

Basically, I sleep really well. Like, REALLY well. Truthfully, I was made fun of through college because I have always been one of those “I NEED MY EIGHT HOURS” kind of people, so I would turn down nights out that started a little too late for me. And, like most people, I’m just a better person when I sleep.

But lately, I just haven’t felt like I’m sleeping enough….and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not my quality of sleep, but rather just how much more work I’m having to do late into the night.

Between working full time, grad school, and even maintaining the blog – there’s just not always enough time to get stuff done at normal hours. So I find myself taking notes, writing papers, posts, or doing research a lot later than usual. Daylight hours are precious when it comes to the photography portion of the blog, so I really use my “nighttime” hours for the computer end of things. Plus, more than ever, I have a lot of screen time going on before bed. I’m taking one of my courses online this semester, which means even more time typing in front of the computer screen. Also, I’m always checking my phone, so I’m probably looking at a screen wayyyy more than I should.

Despite not sleeping as much as I usually do, I am l o v i n g these J. Crew pajamas that Jake got me for Christmas. They literally feel like I am sleeping in sheets – nice and cool, but totally cozy. Plus, I can’t stop wearing this J. Crew bow (which you can get a better view of in this picture on my instagram.) I used to wear bows all the time in high school, so this is really a throw back and really easy to put in my hair. However, if you’re looking for something a little more subtle, I wear these tinier J. Crew bow hair ties to work all the time.

Anyone else feeling like it’s difficult to maintain a *relaxing* nighttime routine? What do you do to get a better nights sleep when it feels like all your working hours are crammed in before bed?

Side note: I think it also doesn’t help that I haven’t felt great the last few months. I was feeling really tired from the headaches (which the glasses have helped a TON), and tack on a sinus infection and a stomach bug – it’s been hard to bounce back!
