Pizza: A Heated Debate.

Would you believe that, when Jake and I first started dating, I told him I didn’t really like pizza?

“Yeah, it’s not my favorite…”, I used to say. Jake literally would have his hands on his head, absolutely out of his mind that I didn’t share his love for greasy pepperoni pizza. Generally, I just sorta found it too greasy and it always made me feel “bleh.” He used to suggest it for dinner all the time, and was routinely disappointed when I would say no. Don’t get me wrong, I’d eat it once in a while, but it was never something I looked forward to having.

Thennnnn, I moved to NYC.

Jeans are my new favorite pair from J. Crew (in petite!) and sweater is Old Navy. Unfortunately, they are out of stock in the yellow, but they still have the blue and white striped version I wore in Cape Cod! Shoes are old J. Crew but this pair from Madewell is similar. The Regan Boot from Madewell is the version I’m eyeing this season! Bag is Kate Spade (from the outlet) and looks so similar to this one (minus the hassles – mine also includes the bow.)

When they tell you there’s nothing like New York pizza, there really is nothing-like-New-York-pizza. I made the “I don’t like pizza” choice based off of my experiences of childhood birthday parties, where parents would order these enormous pizzas with square slices that made me literally wrinkle my nose in disgust. But, it was in college at NYU where I realized just how much good pizza surrounded me. It started with Jake’s obsession with Joe’s Pizza in Union square.

I used to joke and say “How can you stand eating pizza so often? Doesn’t it make you feel gross?”

I was pushing his buttons on purpose, but then he made it me try it. It was my first real introduction to grabbing a slice of New York pizza, and I never really looked back.

THEN, when I moved to Gramercy, I found Vezzo. Vezzo isn’t your typical New York pizza, so don’t go there thinking you’re grabbing the “typical” of NYC. However, it’s one of my all time favorites in the city. The pizza is so thin, it’s almost like eating a cracker. It has a crunch to it, and the margherita classica is literally my all time fav. It’s so light, and Jake I love to stop in and split a large. I can’t get enough of the chunks of mozzarella and chopped bits of tomato! You won’t believe how many slices you can eat because each piece is small and delicious.

However, if I’m opting for New York Style? Patsy’s. Every. Single. Time.

I go for their margherita as well (an obsession I discovered at Vezzo’s….) paired with their fresh caesar salad. Their location in East Harlem is such a nice date spot. You really feel like you’re in the heart of the NYC community, and there is literally no beating their New York pizza.

Today, as Jake and I were walking around Harlem, I said, “Wow, I really want pizza. Let’s go to Patsys…” and I think I literally saw him skip…. It’s funny how things change!

What’s your favorite New York pizza?
