Exploring Our New Area

Moving somewhere new is always the perfect opportunity to try new restaurants, walk new places, and meet new people! Although I’m still in Connecticut, I am in a completely different part of the state and, honestly, don’t know a ton of people in my area yet. I think I am going to start feeling even more involved in the community around me once work starts in the fall (!) and I begin to meet more people. However, for now, I’ve mainly been focused on exploring the area and seeing what cool places I find. This has been especially true during the week, as it seems we’ve been traveling a lot on weekends this summer!

Tee shirt is Madewell purchased through Nordstrom. Wicked comfy and I wear it all the time!

I think moving somewhere new, even when it’s only a couple hours from home, can always be a bit intimidating. Don’t get me wrong – I love living here and I 100% think we made the best choice for us! I think what’s more tricky is figuring out where you fit in with the community and how you can become more involved with it. In reality, we have only been here a month and, as I said, we have traveled a lot in that month. I think, ultimately, I want to end up taking some classes in the area (cooking maybe?) and attending some of the free events around us. 🙂

One thing I’ve really been enjoying is that, where I live, there are sidewalks everywhere. I’ve walked from downtown to suburban neighborhoods, all across the city, and it’s really given me a grasp on my sense of direction for the area. Even just driving through the surrounding towns gives me an idea for how everything is connected and how close I am to so many fun things. I discovered a Farmer’s Market within walking distance from our apartment, and it’s been so fun getting fresh food for the apartment! I’ve also loved being able to take the train into the city to meet friends for dinner – it’s so easy and so worth it!

I have particularly had fun exploring the restaurants in our area. Although we’ve been doing a lot more cooking lately, it’s been fun trying the local food. I love the abundance of options we have around us – there isn’t just one sushi place, but at least 10 of them within a commutable distance. One thing I had really been wanting was a good mint ice cream (shocker!) We recently got a ton of coupons in the mail and I noticed one for a gelato place not too far away. We went there last night and it was so good! Honestly, definitely going to be the place I end up taking all of my friends to!

Have you moved to a new area? What was it like for you?
