Life Update: Student Teaching

I’m not sure how many of you have gone through student teaching before, but it’s where my life is *currently* at. It’s funny, because it’s way more work than I anticipated – and I thought it would be a lot of work! To start, I absolutely 100% adore my cooperating teacher. She’s incredibly helpful and understanding, and I truly feel like I’m learning a lot from her. I’ve been teaching a significant amount of material from the start, and I feel like I’m really getting a grasp on things.

Black Gingham dress is J. Crew Factory, Jack Rogers Sandals in silver (purchased on Poshmark – more details on that here!) and Toino Abel basket bag from Portugal.

However, the whole concept of student teaching itself has some negative aspects. For starters, not getting paid for a three month time period. I’m lucky enough to not worry about rent right now, but I feel like I have such a large amount of stress on me just from a financial standpoint. Something that, unfortunately, every teacher goes through. Plus, my program is feeling pretty intense. In addition to everything we need for the teaching certification process, we have a portfolio for our University, as well as five formal observations. On top of THAT, we also have weekly homework for our seminar that we attend once a week. Plus, you know, the student teaching part. But, to be honest, I can’t really complain too much. I’m almost done with my program (yay!), and get to student teach with someone who is so good to me!  Plus, I get to wear cute clothes to work. Like this J. Crew Factory dress! (I’m wearing a medium for reference!)

On the flip side of all the paperwork, the parts I enjoy only confirm that this is a great career for me. I love working with my students and coworkers. I know this is such a short time period, and it’s already flying by. Truthfully, I’m just trying to learn everything I can before that time runs out. I know I’m going to be so sad when it’s over, because my class and cooperating teacher are just incredible.

Any advice for surviving student teaching?
