The Beginnings Of The Apartment

First off: I am loving living where I am living. Jake and I have been having such a great time getting to know the area and finding local shops. We’ve also just been enjoying finally being able to live together and cook dinner with each other – well, actually he’s been doing the cooking for the most part, which has truthfully been an awesome surprise!!

Decorating was something that I did a lot of planning in advance for. I will be sharing more photos as soon as our couch comes. I went with a lot of bright blue placement around the apartment with white accents. For example, this Rifle Paper Co. rug is really the statement piece for our living room. It’s something that I am head over heels in love with and I think it does a great job of defining the living room space from our kitchen area. I love all the different blues that come from it and even the faintest purple (which goes great with my NYU alum pillow that’s currently taken place in our living room LOL it’s so comfy on the chair!) To be honest, I had my eye on a different Rifle Paper Co. rug for a while (this one!) but I felt, as much as I loved it, it was a little too dark for the small space. Still beautiful though!

I also had never cut a rug pad before and did not realize how challenging it would be to cut the felt pad in a straight line. I was losing my mind! It literally took me two hours (plz don’t judge…!) I would cut about 4-6 inches as a time, then stop to take out all the fuzz from the scissors…in reflection, I probably should have just gone out to buy a  better pair of scissors, but I had this crazy determination “I just want to get this done” thing going on – but somehow I finished! If you’re curious, this is the rug pad, which actually feels quite comfy under our new rug.

We even have blue in our bedroom as well! We went with the Fairfax quilt from Serena and Lily (pictures to come with the full effect – I promise!) along with the matching shams . This was certainly a splurge item, but so far we absolutely love them. The weight of the quilt it perfect and exactly what we needed for the space! As much as I wanted the S&L blue chambray sheets to match, I just felt they were too pricey. SO we opted for this Calvin Klein set from Macy’s (Jake spotted them when we were shopping and they are p e r f e c t!) Obviously we went for the Heather Periwinkle color – it was the closest to the chambray look I was going for, and I think matches just as well.

I am also absolutely loving my little balcony! This Joss & Main bistro table has been the perfect addition to our outside eating. I love a natural wood outdoor table, and this has held up well – including some minor spills we have already had! Because, to be honest, we have eaten dinner out here most nights – even in the rain! The rain hardly hits our little baloney and it gives us a whole extra living space to hang out in.

We are having a blast! I will be sharing more apartment work with you in the coming weeks! For now, just a sneak peak of the rug. 😉
