Staying Virtually Connected

Again, it’s hard to write with a focus of anything other than the current COVID-19 pandemic. It’s on all of our minds, it’s all I read on my own phone. So, when I sit down to write a blog post it’s hard to write about anything else, because nothing else really compares.

What I’ve found that’s helped me, and probably everyone else, is trying to stay as connected to others as possible without actually being with them. I text my friends everyday – whether it’s just to check in or send each other ridiculous GIFs. My best friend Pj had his birthday the other day (sorry we didn’t have a day as epic as Golden Birthday – we are making up for it!!) and that night we all did a Google Hangout together while playing Quiplash on our phones. It was so fun and I laughed a ton – and it was honestly nice to feel like I was seeing other people. We ended up being online for almost four hours – which goes to show you how needed this really was for all of us.

Jake and I have also been walking non-stop, even if it is the same path every day. We aren’t near anyone and take the opportunity to chat with one another while walking, just like we always have, but now there’s this need to fit it in everyday or else we would honestly go crazy. It’s a good way for the two of us to feel connected and talk about what we do all day while working virtually, while also getting those steps in. It’s also my time to get away from the screen completely!

Right now, I’m all about feeling gratitude for my own health and I’m looking at the situation from a perspective of keeping myself and others safe rather than feeling trapped. It’s easy to fall into that feeling with everything going on – but I know others are feeling much worse than me. Right now, I’m with my family and Jake, and that’s I’m lucky to be able to do that!

How are you staying connected with others while social distancing?
